As I grew older, I slowly began to drift down the hill from my school to St. Pauls, and as a creative person, it sparked my neurons. Houses were painted brighter colours, music was played louder, food smelt and tasted better, people laughed a lot and partied. It was a hell of an awakening.
As an artist, it’s hard not to feel like you are being self-indulgent. But creativity is not just a frivolous pursuit – carried out with love and sensitivity, it really can make a difference to people’s lives, and even in tragic circumstances help people be remembered for the shining lights they were.
As part of my self-administered art therapy, I have been defacing and reconstructing over a decade of paintings.
